Irregardless of education, middle class or professional status in Mexico,in americano eyes we are all the same...MEXICANS..FOREIGNERS!

Therefore,we become an existential threat to their security and status.

I have worked with many Mexican professional college grads having higher education..chemists,engineers,scientists..etc etc..working for temp agencies in low paying warehouse, retail, restaurant jobs, and even some laboring in the fields..

IMHO,no analysis of america,of the situation of Mexicanos in general, can ever ever approximate accuracy or completion without a thorough understanding of critical elements: the social, political dynamics of racism and xenophobia.

Underestimating, ignoring, denying the political factor, is to live in a dream world,to see it through rose colored glasses.

That may work for some few privileged individuals, but for the vast majority of the Raza it just will not apply..

Re: Deported DREAM Act student reaches out from Bangladesh and pleads to be returned home to the United States

My heart bleeds for Saad.President Obama this is who we need in the U.S.A. My parents also brought me to this country when I was 13 years old. I did not know a single word of English, but I learned fast. We moved to the United States because my parents wanted a better opportunity, and a chance at life better than they had. Saad is not asking for a pardon or an amnesty, he wants a chance to live in the only place he knows as home. To have a life, and pursue the unalienable rights to liberty, and happiness.
I urge President Obama, and Congress to listen to Saad's words. Bring Saad home, and pass the DREAM Act (S. 729).

Re: For the sake of the DREAM Act students, Latinos must come together

We need for the DREAM ACT to pass! I pray every day that the DREAM act would become law, but nothing happens. President Obama is a lair and a coward. He swore in an interview at UNIVISION before the presidential elections that the DREAM act would become law in his Presidency. He even mentioned that he would use, if it's necessary, his executive Presidential political power to make the DREAM act law..... but NOTHING HAPPENS. It's so sad how these politicians play politics with so many human lifes.
President Barack Obama doesn't care but himself. I honestly am sorry to say this, but I really hope President Barack Obama and all Democrats drop dead.

Re: Guest Voz: Undocumented student takes control of his own destiny by making the hardest decision of his life

I've spent time in Taipei and other parts of Taiwan. It's a beautiful place and a great place to live. I can think of few other places where people from the US would feel more welcome, as we've been their protectors for decades, and they express it openly. English is commonly spoken, especially among the young, so our friend will have no trouble communicating. The Taiwan army is very professional and humane, so his service shouldn't be onerous, and may even be character-building. Taiwan is full of economic opportunity, as it has a working relationship with Hong Kong, a nexus to Red China. There will no doubt be many jobs open to him in the future. Chih Tsung Kao should look upon the return to his homeland as an opportunity, not a sentence.
As to the expiration of his residence permit, clearly his grand parents were aware that it had a limited life span. Their negligence in renewing it was probably based upon the idea that the federal government has a long history of impotence in controlling immigration. He's just being charitable by not blaming them for is situation. As part of the Budbhist legacy, Asian children are taught to respect their elders, so it would not be likely for him be critical of them.
His is a good example for the rest of the legal residents who are depending upon more of the same failed policing. While he makes a compelling case for charity, granting exceptions only encourages more contempt for our immigration policies.

Re: FL's Pastor Jones shows being within your rights to do something doesn't make it right

"The Latino plaintiffs who brought this lawsuit knew this law was intended to drive them out of Hazleton," said Cesar Perales, President and General Counsel of LatinoJustice PRLDEF. "The court clearly recognized this danger."
Actually, what danger was there in driving out illegal aliens? If there was a legal means to drive illegal aliens out of Hazleton, then Hazelton should have been permitted to do so, as they are not entitled to live there in the first place. The law on the books clearly says they are not permitted to be there. This will surely be overturned in the SCOTUS.

Re: Finally, some Latino Republicans denounce following AZ lead in immigration hysteria

The Hispanic Republican group "Somos Republicans" are also fighting to remove bigotry from their party.
http://somosrepublicans.com/

Re: Passing immigration reform is now a humanitarian necessity to prevent more needless deaths

I far more prefer good reporting to bogus rants about issues that affect everyone. As for the commenter, Ben Lubbon, 'Utopia' is a planet many writers have used in the past to describe that perfect world you're addressing.
Marisa T. in this article there are a lot of questions that are probably felt as though "it's up to the USA." However, could you please explain why I should be concerned about a morque in Mexico housing victims of senseless travel, and not using their brains?
No! I don't think that it is America's responsibility to guide or lead by the hand every single illegal who wants into my country. "Their misfortune? Coming in contact with a drug cartel that now preys on U.S.-bound migrants."
It makes very little sense to navigate in that environment and why would anyone welcome that kind of thinking into their country. Just as easily as the U.S. allowed so many Cubans to become citizens in 1966 through legislative action, it can also take away with the current round of immigration proposals and laws. The Florida Cuban population is not immune.

Re: Guest Voz: Russian by birth, American by heart, DREAM Act student Ivan Nikolov fights to be an American

Friggin DHS is playing games with Ivan. In this case, it is obvious that it is being used to weaken the president’s strength in Florida, and to open the door for a potential challenge from our former governor Jeb Bush.
Just as the war and the bailouts sunk John McCain, McCollum, Jeb and their establishment strategists are positioning to defeat Obama in 2012. While I have no allegiance to the incumbent president, I would rather see a true independent in the White House than another establishment hack.
I have worked tirelessly to get an independent elected having run for president myself back in the 2008 cycle. Originally I supported Governor Crist in his independent bid for the US Senate, but then criticized the incumbent governor for exploiting the media coverage of the oil spill for vote gathering. Crist has done great damage to tourism in the Panhandle and Obama knows it. Which is why Obama made his way to Panama City Beach to stage his own political theatre.
I have to agree with Marco Rubio on calling out Crist and his new caucus intentions. Attending fundraisers with Harry Reid does not make Crist very independent. Instead he should be trying to restart Florida tourism.

Re: Are Latinos really wanted by either Party?

voten a todos fuera, con mayoria en congreso los imbeciles no se ponen de acuerdo en ningun bill.mucho menos en immigration

Re: Are Latinos really wanted by either Party?

I have been a member of the Democratic party since I cast my first vote for President
for Jimmy Carter.
Since then I voted for every Democatic nominee for President save one. That person was Barak Obama.
I sensed from the moment I first heard him speak- that he was disingenous in a way
that went well beyond politics as usual.
I suppose the first clue, came from the fact that he had written a biography about himself in which he paid tribute to a man
who abandoned him and his mother.
Moreover, it was clear to me that
Barak Obama had very little respect or admiration for the family of his mother who raised him. They were thrown into a corner and never mentioned. I knew then that I could not vote for a person who had so little respect for his family.
The Democratic party needs a new voice.
Barak Obama's message simply rings
hollow.

Re: Birthright citizenship wouldn't even be an issue if it weren't for one thing

Hey Marisa,
Long time, no comment. I don't like cheating, even when I understand the motivations behind it."
When one considers themselves to be "one thing" or "another thing", they are lost. Here, your friend's being lost is particularly glaring.
Look what he writes: "On balance, I think illegal immigration has probably been a positive thing for the United States...but still, the law is the law".
Laws should serve purposes. If they do not, they become dangerous, especially if that law has potential to affect millions of individuals lives, literally.
A question for Mr. Blow: what if your child was an "illegal immigrant"? would you call ICE. As I have said before, the Latino activists must step up their game. The politicians do not care about chants and marches, they only care about getting re-elected. All Congressmen and candidates for Congress should be graded on their stance on immigration reform. Those who oppose immigration reform (like for instance Marco Rubio in Florida)or those who sit on the sideline should get a C or a D.
Congress and Obama himself must be informed that inaction on immigration reform will be punished at the polls.

Re: Guest Voz: Russian by birth, American by heart, DREAM Act student Ivan Nikolov fights to be an American

Alvin, your post is incredibly cruel. It's not about any political party "wanting" you, but about asserting our rights as Americans and participating in the political process.
As for deporting people who have lied on visa applications or who have reentered the country after being deported...that's what happens when you break the law.
I am in favor of immigration reform, but come on. You act like the law doesn't apply to illegal immigrants at all.
As for Obama, he lied to everybody during the campaign and pretty much everybody is unhappy with him.
Instead of withdrawing from the political process, everybody should demand that the Democrats run somebody else in 2012.
